ARTIST BIO

6 Minute Mile is a rock band from Seattle. The members have all played in other local outfits, some successful, some not.

The debut, The Race for Second, was recorded over a period of 6 months at the Recovery Room with local musician/producer, Graig Markel (New Sweet Breath, Tagging Satellites). The record buzzes with hyperactive guitars as it delivers 10 odes of disaffected optimism. The overall feel is heavily influenced by the 80's Minneapolis sound mixed with more modern bands like Knapsack and Dinosaur Jr. While it does not promise a new sound, it is genuine and heartfelt.

Continuing the theme of early to mid-90's rock that seems to be dictating the music that's been hitting my desk, 6 Minute Mile sound a lot like some of the Boston rock that was coming out last decade. Their songwriting is tight and the nostalgic nod they give Jawbox and Dinosaur Jr are well warranted. 6 Minute Mile come our way from Seattle, WA with all their rock style. Truth is The Race For Second is a damn fine album. It reminds me of recent work from a band called Slowdive as well as some older bands like Seaweed. They have a heartfelt sound that really works with their combination of heavy and a bit softer music. At some points it's hard to believe that 6 Minute Mile is actually a three piece. The members are all apt musicians and decent songwriters. If the right label catches wind of these three, they might be out for the long haul.

Hard pop that recalls XTC's Drums and Wires. Seattle's 6 Minute Mile provides impressive material on their debut album. The band treads on that fine line that divides power pop from hard rock. Their music is based upon interesting chord changes and meaty power chords...but the vocal melodies are what make the band's music so appealing. 6 Minute Mile consists of Jason Hughes (guitar, vocals), Chuck Connell (bass, vocals), and Jeff Roeser (drums). Lead guitars are (thankfully) noticeably absent from the band's sound...allowing them to concentrate on their intent song structures. The band's overall aim is to rock hard while providing plenty of memorable melodic hooks. Cool rockers include "Not So Strong," "Fire on the Moon," "Pilot," and "Bleeding." (Rating: 4++++)
